Types of Transformers and its purpose

A transformer is an inductive electrical device for changing the voltage of an alternating current. A transformer consists of two magnetically coupled coils. The alternative current in one coil (called the “primary”) creates a changing magnetic field which induces a current in the second coil (called the “secondary”).

The main purpose of transformer is to transfer electrical energy from one alternating-current circuit to other circuits or multiple circuits through the process of electromagnetic induction. Transformers are also used by companies for generating electricity.  A transformer works at the principle of electromagnetic induction to step up or step down voltage.
